In Rochelle's
own words: "As a child, I liked watching old black and white
horror and film noir
movies. I liked looking through art books about the renaissance
and dark ages where there
were often paintings of saints and their agonies. I liked the
Brothers Grimm and Hans
Christian Andersen fairy tales, full of beauty and suffering.
At the same time, I admired and
wanted to emulate the lighting and style of the Renaissance and
Victorian Romantic painters.
I don't think I've changed much.
The paintings exist before I make them. It is my job to make
them visible. The only control
I have is to pay attention, be prepared to work, and then work.
I am self-taught, so I probably
do everything the hard way. I try to learn and improve everyday." |
