The Story Behind
the Little Lamb Series |
When I was a baby, my crib had
lambs on it and at some point I had seen Shari Lewis and Lamb
Chop on TV and loved her. So, one time on a trip, my mother saw
this little lamb at a store and brought it home for me. I had
cleverly named it “My Lamby”. My brothers and sisters
named it “Stupid Lamby”. I carried it with me everywhere.
It was my best friend for what it was.
I have a rather tragic story of how I lost My Lamby.
My Lamby met her untimely doom one day when my niece told me
she thought My Lamby needed a bath (surely she did, as I had
her for many years and she was quite filthy). She took her into
the backyard where there was a pool of mud and proceeded to “wash”
her. She was destroyed beyond repair. I took her to my Mother
and she was solemnly pronounced dead upon arrival. I was struck
with such grief. There was no Tide, no Arm & Hammer to save
her. This was my first experience with death and the hole in
my heart has probably never healed.
She served me well. She never asked anything of me and took all
of my abuse, smothering and occasional neglect with a smile.
And in return, I failed to protect her.
My Poor Lamby, my inspiration. I dedicate this series to you
my friend.
